This is known as the "most stringent" furniture safety directive in the history of the European Union, and it has made very strict regulations on furniture in many aspects such as physical, chemical, mechanical, electrical, and sanitary. The latest addition is that the heavy metal testing of exported furniture will increase from 8 to 19.

Lou Qijin, vice chairman of the Yiwu Furniture Industry Association, said that this standard has actually been introduced, but there is only a two-year transition period, and the transition period is now over. The requirement for heavy metal content is changed from the previous migration amount to bioavailability. The materials are divided into three categories, and the limits are set one by one, which is much stricter than the old directive. Some furniture business owners believe that because of their popularity, high-end foreign brands may outperform domestic children ’s products, which is a reality that they have to face squarely. More “pessimistic” business owners believe that some furniture manufacturers in Yiwu still focus on OEM processing, and their awareness of independent upgrading is not strong. They are powerless to the new EU standards and may be blocked from the EU.
