Vespa can convert solar energy into electricity

Since the late 20th century, people have been trying to make solar cells. But although more than 100 years have passed, we still have not received much energy from it. We did half the work, but the Oriental Hornets (oriental hornets, also known as Vespa) already had solar cells long before the primitive people.

Eastern Hornets are widely distributed, from the southeast of Europe to the northeast of Africa, to the southwest of Asia, and Madagascar. The Eastern Hornet lived underground, and worker bees bore holes in the soil and filled it with hexagonal cells like a bee. At the end of the 1960s, people already knew that the spirit was most different from other wasps in the morning. This oriental bumblebee was most active at noon.

This can be seen as a negligible lifestyle detail, but Jacob Ishay and colleagues at the University of Tel Aviv in Israel have confirmed that this is an important clue that the line index is a heavyweight fact: Oriental Hornet has similar solar cells in its skin structure.

Worker bees remove dirt from the hive every day. In the summer, most of their working hours are when the UV is the strongest. These Eastern Bumblebees evolved a unique ability to absorb sunlight energy.
Marian Plotkin and his colleagues at the University of Tel Aviv used advanced microscopes to examine the epidermis structure of the wasps. Most of them are brown, but a small part is yellow. These colors show that the oriental bumblebee is a poisonous insect and therefore can warn its potential predators. But at the same time, these natural pigments are also involved in the collection of solar energy.

There can be no doubt that this kind of wasp can convert solar energy into electricity. So what do the converted electricity do?

One possibility is to use electricity to provide energy to enzymes in the yellow epidermis. There is evidence that these enzymes act like mammals' livers and have metabolic functions. These enzymes are more active when the wasp is exposed to ultraviolet light. Another possibility is to use electric energy to maintain a comfortable body temperature. For example, when it is hot, it turns the heat energy into electricity, and then stores it. Then, when the weather turns cold, it turns the energy into heat.

Of course, electrical energy may also provide extra energy to the muscles of its wings, allowing it to fly faster. When exposed to ultraviolet light, the wasp wakes up faster after being anesthetized and can fly away immediately.

Stone Garden Statues

Shadow carving is one of the design techniques of stone carving. A new handicraft developed on the basis of the early "needle black and white" craft. The earliest works were not created by Hui'an artists in the 1960s. They are all based on photos, so they are called "shadow carving". This kind of carving is made of jade crystal lake bluestone sawn into flat plates. First, the surface is polished. By using its chiseling characteristics, it can show the white spots. With sharp tools, it can carve out micro dots of different sizes, depths, and densities. Only different levels of black and white can be divided, so that the image is displayed. It is not only delicate and lifelike, but also unique. It is the development of stone carving towards pure artistry, opening up a new path for stone carving production.
